Does CBD help boost your immune system? The facts.
With heath at the forefront of everyone’s’ mind these days, you are probably wondering ‘What you can do to keep yourself healthy.’ As a CBD company, we talk a lot about cannabis and mental health, but did you know that CBD also helps strengthen your immune system? CBD has been used for centuries for its health benefits, but recently, there has been a lot of studies conducted that show that CBD can be a natural way to boost your immune system.
How does CBD help the immune system? The Science
The therapeutic effects of CBD are realized by the interaction with the bodies cannabinoid receptors in our endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system comprises two main G protein-coupled receptors (CB1 and CB2), endogenous ligands known as endocannabinoids (anandamide and 2-AG), plus the proteins that transport our endocannabinoids and the enzymes that break them down in the body.(Projectcbd.com) The endocannabinoid system is integral to the body’s physiologies, and is responsible for regulating a wide range of body functions, including pain sensation, anxiety, sleep, mood, appetite, metabolism, memory and most importantly right now, immune response.
One study suggested that CBD helped with lung inflammation and assist in respiratory function, the study stated that; ‘In animals, CBD supports a healthy inflammatory response in the lungs. It also improves lung function in mice exposed to a lung irritant.’ (chiroeco.com)
According to a study conducted by Australian scientists, CBD might also work as a powerful antibiotic against certain drug-resistant bacteria. This study found that CBD’s antibacterial was 100% clear BUT researchers did notice that CBD disrupted biofilms that bacteria use to shield themselves from antibiotics. (Fiercebiotech.com)
How else does CBD help the immune system?
CBD also helps strengthen the immune system in indirect ways, such as stress management and helping with sleep. Stress and lack of sleep have been studied to weaken your immune system because when we’re stressed, the immune system’s ability to fight off viruses is reduced, making you more susceptible to infections.
Stress also often triggers individuals to drink, smoke, or overeat, in order to cope. Many individuals have been forced inside to stay safe from the recent CoVid-19 outbreak, and many have been turning to overeating and drinking for comfort and entertainment. Years of research has found that having an unhealthy diet and smoking invokes havoc on the immune system. CBD helps ease some of that stress invoked eating, and even has been used to combat addiction.
Most importantly CBD helps keep your mind healthy. During these strange and uncertain times, it is extremely easy to fall into a cycle of negative thinking. CBD has been studied to help with anxiety and depression (mentioned in a few of our previous blog posts), and some of us need it now more than ever.
How Hudson Valley CBD can help:
We've recently introduced a #Peppermint oil flavored tincture. The reason we swapped to Peppermint is for its other natural benefits. We were discussing with our friend and CBD Advocate Doctor Mike Rubenstein, and here’s what he had to say "Peppermint Oil has been showing great promise in research, to be an effective alternative therapy for pain and global symptoms stemming from IBS." Other clinical research from (webmd.com) shows that peppermint can be helpful in soothing colds, coughs, inflammation of the mouth and throat, sinus and respiratory infections.
As we always mention, we are not doctors, just honest people who want to help people to be healthy and most importantly feel good! We try to share as much fact-based research as possible, but we always encourage you to do your own research if you are interested in using CBD for health purposes.
